Rotary Club Malta has been working with Rotary Club of Bwebajja, Uganda and another NGO, Kids of Africa, to build a school in the Luwero district, in the north of Uganda.

How lucky our children and grandchildren are to be able to go to school. For the past two years, Rotary Club Malta has been working with Rotary Club of Bwebajja and another NGO, Kids of Africa in Uganda to build a school in the Luwero district, in the north of the country. This district is badly under resourced in terms of education. Their present school, much as it is, was mostly destroyed in a storm last year and no funds were available to have it repaired.

The school with have 10 classrooms, administration offices, refectory and sanitation facilities.

The project, devised and curated by Rotarian Ian De Cesare has seen the project come from an idea to a building with funds being raised from donations, club funds, district allocations and Government of Malta Development Assistance, combined, giving total of €125,000

Funds in the region of €20,000 are further required as the recommendation to further extend the scope of the project and include plumbing for running fresh water through the introduction of a well, submersible pump and pipe work to the school.

Works to date include;

  • Excavation - complete
  • Substructure construction - complete
  • Laying on foundations - complete
  • Walling - complete
  • Columns and beams - partial
  • Roof timber frame work - partial

The works are estimated to be completed by Spring of 2020.
