Rotary Club Malta Sponsors a Rotary Community Corps

A Rotary Community Corps is a group of people who share the Rotary ideals and commitment to changing the world through service projects. Rotary Community Corps members plan and carry out projects in their communities and support local Rotary club projects but are not members of a Rotary club.
On the initiative of Monique Chambers, a group of 10 non-Rotarians have come together to form a Rotary Community Corps (RCC) sponsored by our club.

The mission of this RCC, named Nurture, is explained as follows:

Nurture

Rotary Community Corps, a Rotary Action Group for Economic & Community Development
Rotary clubs have a wealth of business knowledge and expertise as well as soft skills, locked up in the community of spouses and their networks. A Rotary Action Group for Economic & Community Development could harness these skills and help people in areas that are hit by unemployment, to create work, give hope and revive pride within young people.
We want to create a centre for unemployed people to learn new skills like furniture restoration, sewing, food preparation, update CVs and attend talks and workshops etc., have somewhere to go instead of just hanging out on the street.
The value of having dignity and an opportunity is priceless. With the right guidance, these young people could create items for sale which one would hope a percentage of which, would find its way back to Rotary. This also has a knock-on effect of raising the awareness of Rotary and engaging members by enabling them to give service using their expertise.
There are some ideas ready for acting upon and we would seek to build a skills database within the spouse community and have hours donated to a skills bank (designer, teacher, marketing, soft skills etc.)
