Ischia Disaster Relief Appeal

Following the landslide on the Italian island of Ischia, Rotary Club Malta is appealing for donations to be managed through Rotary District 2101 Campagna  to provide assistance to those effected by this natural disaster in which eight people have lost their lives and a number are still missing.

When national disasters hit a region, we immediately see the impact upon the lives of people on our TV screens - at least until the next disaster pushes our attention away.

The recent landslide in the town of Casamicciola Terme on the north coast of the magical island of Ischia, in the Bay of Naples, caused havoc when a wave of mud and debris caused by heavy rains devastated the town causing eight deaths, including a couple and their 3 week old child, injury and missing people and cars swept into the sea. Rescue efforts have been hampered by heavy rains and winds. 

 

When natural disasters occur, one's natural instinct is to try and help by making donations however one is always concerned about ensuring that the funds donated are used wisely and ethically. Rotary is a global organisation with the highest level of respect and is rated consistently as in the top 1% of charities for the effective use of donations by Charity Navigator. Rotary is an organisation you can trust.

 

Rotary District 2101, which covers the region of Campania in Italy, has launched an appeal for funds which will be used on projects to help people in the affected parts of Ischia.  Rotary Club Malta has itself received assistance from District 2101 when we sought funds for our project for equipping Hospice Malta's St Michael's Hospice and have launched an appeal to help on this project.

Donations received by Rotary Club Malta will be sent together to Rotary District 2101.
