Joseph A. Buhagiar is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Malta. His first appointment at University was as Curator of the plant collections at Argotti and later as director of the botanic gardens. In 20210, he received his Ph.D. from Nottingham University where his research centred on investigations into the bioactivity of plant extracts on the growth of cancer cells.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK). Prof. Buhagiar has represented Malta at a number of conferences abroad. He is also actively involved in several EU funded plant conservation projects including the current SiMaSeed Project which involves the setting up of a seedbank at the department of Biology and growing indigenous plants for habitat restoration in Malta’s Natura 2000 sites.
