Rotary Club Malta Hands-On Days
Rotary Club Malta initiated the concept of Rotary Hands-On Days in October 2009 when the Club organised the first Rotary Hands-On Day at Dar il-Kaptan, the respite home for the disabled in Mtarfa.
The objective of the Rotary Hands-On Days is to get Rotarians, together with our friends and families, to go to an institute or worthy organisation and to carry out a make-over of the premises in a fun day where, with our own hands, we give a hand with whatever they need to enhance the facility. It is usually a combination of painting, wood work, gardening, cleaning up and general maintenance.
During our Rotary Hands-On Days we seek to collect volunteers both from within Rotary but, more importantly, from outside Rotary. Typically these are young people interested to help in the community. We organise music and lunch/drinks or such like to make the day a fun day out. "What is most enticing about the Rotary Hands-On Days is the wealth of young people who turn up to lend a helping hand with such enthusiasm" said John de Giorgio, President of Rotary Club Malta 2009-2010 who founded the Rotary Hands-On Days. "Helping with your hands is so much more fulfilling than helping just with your wallet".
Rotary always seeks to obtain all the materials required for the day from sponsoring companies Rotary Club Malta has held 3 Hands-On Days to date.
The Rotary Hands-On Days organised by Rotary Club Malta have been held in collaboration with Rotary Club La Valette and Rotaract Club Malta.
