Rotary Heritage Tour to Malta

Rotary Club Malta invites members of Rotary and their family and friends on a 3 day heritage tour to explore the history-rich island of Malta, taking in some of its unique World Heritage Sites on an escorted tour.

The tour will serve as a funding raising event for district 2110's (Sicily & Malta) End Polio Now campaign as well as a form of inter-club fellowship.

What will we see?

With 7,000 years of history and probably the greatest density of historic sites in the world after Rome within its 316 square kilometres, Malta boasts no less than 3 entries in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list: the Megalithic temples, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum and the city of Valletta, built by the Knights of St John.

In this 3 day tour you will be taken to Malta’s most magnificent sites together with English & Italian speaking guides and have the opportunity to visit places which are not open to the public. The focus of the tour will be:
  • the City of Valletta including St John’s Co-Cathedral where you will visit the 2 Caravaggio’s, the Grandmaster’s Palace, including the armoury, and the Malta Experience multi-visual show
  • the Megalithic temple of Mnajdra
  • the city of Mdina
  • the city of Birgu
  • the Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni (limited numbers available - by special pre-booking and at additional cost.

    When?
The tour will take place between the evening of Thursday 22nd April 2010 and Sunday 25th April (Easter Sunday is on the 4th April in 2010).

    Tour Details
The tour will include 5 star hotel accommodation at the Grand Hotel Excelsior (>> more), optional airport/port transfers, all transport to visited sites and dinners, all meals inclusive of wine, the services of professional guides and entrance tickets for all the sites visited during the tour. While participants are asked to make their own travel arrangements to and from Malta, transport while in Malta will be provided.

Travel to Malta is very easy with all major airlines flying from a wide range of aitports and also a number of low cost airlines including RyanAir and EasyJet. Check flight schedules at Malta International Airport. A catamaran service is also available between Pozzallo in Sicily and Malta and also from Catania (depending on dates).
