Rotary CIP conference

CIP 2014 kicked off with a drinks reception and dinner at the Caviar & Bull Restaurant at the Corinthia St Julians on Thursday evening where many Rotarians who have attended the popular CIP meeting once again renewed their friendships.  On Friday morning the participants were guided around Malta's capital city of Valletta visiting sites such as St John's co-Cathedral, the President's Palace, the National Library, the Manoel Theatre and Casa Rocca Picola.  This was followed by a splendid lunch at the gardens of Villa Bologna and then a walking tour of the medieval city of Mdina.

 

During the evening the visiting Rotarians were split into small groups and were hosted to dinner in the homes of local Rotarians giving them the opportunity to taste the famous Maltese hospitality and get to know one another better in smaller groups.

 

On Saturday, the official Rotary meeting is being held with speakers Prof Emilio Cotini, a member of the Rotary Club of Catania speaking about the Rotary as a promoter of mutual understanding, and Dr Karsten Xuereb speaking about the plans for Valletta as the Capital of European Culture in 2018.  The participants were then taken by boat on a visit of the Grand Harbour followed by lunch at the Maritime Museum in Birgu.

 

A Gala Dinner was then held, which included many local Rotarians, in the garden courtyard of the InterContinental Hotel Malta were a lovely dinner was enjoyed together with a group of singers brought over for the occasion from Sicily.  During the event an exchange of banners was held with representatives of all of the visiting clubs.

 

At the official meeting of the CIP Inter-Country Committee, a decision was taken to hold the next CIP Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, San Marino and Malta in Liechtenstein between the 10th and 13th September 2015.
